2023 has been our biggest year yet for Netball Netherlands. Each quarter we met with club representatives to inform and validate our work plan priorities, and in between we pushed harder and faster to establish our organization. Here is what we have achieved by Q3 2023:
A new Dutch Netball League from October 2023
An exciting new competition for Dutch netball players kicked off in October, with the launch of the Dutch inter-club netball League Pilot. Maastricht, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Amsterdam and Brussels are taking part, and Den Haag will participate in friendly matches. The League begins October 2024, concluding July 2024, and, will stimulate further opportunities for players and clubs to compete and further grow the sport domestically. New Netball Netherlands policies and becoming a member of Dutch Sports Federation
New policies and regulations are being drafted to support the governance of Netball Netherlands, including a Code of Conduct, Safe Play, Diversity and Inclusion, amongst others. The policies are designed to ensure the sport is played in a safe, fun, fair and inclusive way. They will be applied the inform the rules of the League Pilot, for example.
In parallel, Netball Netherlands is currently in the process of becoming recognised as a member of NOC NSF – the Dutch Sports Federation. We regularly meet with NOC NSF representatives for guidance as we build our submission. The suite of policies we are developing are in line with NOC NSF guidelines.
A new website
If you are reading this, then you are on our brand spanking new website! We are very proud of our website and the way it communicates that we exist as a netball community made up of committed and passionate volunteers from our clubs who are the backbone of our existence. We are extremely grateful to the talented Nadine van der Wielen from Amsterdam Netball Club and Lyla Fernandes from Maastricht Club for creating our website.
